6th February 2005 - Away 1.00pm KO vs. Ormesby Lads Result - Won 5-1 An excellent display with some clinical finishing in a game that for much of the first half could have gone either way. Mutford were already without Jordan W for personal reasons and were further hit with selection problems when 'keeper Harrison was unable to take to the field due to a migraine. The versatile Wheels agreed to play between the sticks in the first half. With Jervy taking over at half time. Both teams had early chances which neither converted. However, it was Mutford who took the lead after some excellent midfield work had played Sam in for the opener. The game was still wide open for much of the first half, Smiffy playing at left mid was unlucky with a left foot shot following a Johnny corner, before Mikey put Mutford 2 up with a driving run and shot. Smiffy came off after 20 minutes to make way for Josh on the left, in the new diamond shaped mid-field with Jason playing his usual holding roll, Johnny on the right and Sam playing as an attacking mid-fielder. Ormesby then got themselves back into the game with an excellent header from a corner on the right. Jordan P then restored the 2 goal advantage following an exceptional passing move with Johnny winning the ball on the edge of his own box, surging forward before playing Mikey in on the right wing who passed to Jordan to slot home. Half Time 3-1 The second half saw Mutford's 2nd change with Wheels coming out of goal to take up a position on the right wing with Jervy, who had been playing very well in defence along side Jack, Phil and Joe, taking over in goal. Joe moved to centre back with Josh playing left back. Mikey showed why he is Mutford's top scorer this season with a cracking finish to grab his 16th competitive goal of the season. This was the start of a purple patch for Mutford creating a number of chances Wheels coming close on 2 occasions, Johnny also bringing out the best of the Ormesby 'keeper. Finally Jordan capped off a man-of-the-match performance when the unselfish Mikey (on a hatrick) played him in for his 2nd goal. Mark Smith (Assistant Manager) said after the game, "We are very pleased with this result, Ormesby have been playing very well lately and we knew that they were going to push us all the way. We have been working hard on our passing game in training and have introduced some new drills. We saw the fruits of this today, the passing leading up to all our goals was of the highest quality and the finishing was out of the top draw. The game was probably more even than the scoreline indicates, but our finishing was impeccable, I'm well chuffed for our strikers". Man of the Match - Jordan P.
