31st October 2004 - Home 12.45pm KO vs. Ormesby Lads

Result - Won 10-0

Mutford produced an excellent display of football to overcome Ormesby at The Dell. Coming into the match the two teams were experiencing very different form. Mutford having won their previous two games and feeling very confident, and Ormesby having a tough start to the season, made worse by two late call offs on the weekend of the match.

The game started with Mutford pressing forward and Mickey getting clear early, his shot rebounding off the inside of the post. Shortly after, Mickey again broke clear and rounded the keeper, as he shaped to shoot some desperate defending saw the ball break clear for Josh to score his first league goal from 8 yards out. This increased Mutford's confidence further and a neat build up between Josh and Mickey produced a superb cross for Jordan P to acrobatically guide home. Mutford then added a third when a half clearance by Ormesby fell to Jack, who blasted in from the edge of the area. Mickey added a fourth, his initial shot rebounding from the post back to him and he lashed his shot into the net.

The next two goals came from the Captain, Clabby. The first a free kick, curled over the wall and into the roof of the net, the second a trade mark Clabby corner taking a slight deflection. Mutford hit the post and crossbar a total of four times during the first half as well scoring six times.

Half Time 6-0

The second half was a test of Mutford's concentration and determination not to concede a goal. The defence of Smiffy, Phil, Jervey and Jordan W holding firm and not giving Ormesby any reason for cheer, when the defence was breached, Harrison returning to goal, showed typical bravery, diving at the strikers feet to smother. Josh then added his second breaking clear and steering the ball beyond the keeper. Josh then scored his third with a goal to rival Jordan P's first half effort for goal of the game. A long ball by Jason released Josh down the right, having out paced the defender Josh buried a left foot driven into the net. The completion of an excellent hat trick !!! Mickey then added his second with a well taken left foot shot into the corner. The match was rounded off by Wheels, on up front for the first time in two games scoring from close range. Josh threatened again late on with a long range rasper, and Wheels continued to cause chaos with a series of mazy runs.

Manager Paul Rose said after the game, "I am very pleased with the performance and the result. The strikers will recieve the majority of the praise and rightly so, they were excellent. Some of the parents who haven't seen Josh often maybe surprised. We all see him in training every week, we know how good he is. Mickey looks like he is learning every game he plays and again he was outstanding. But I was really pleased to keep a clean sheet. Phil has given a lot to us at the back, the midfield is more defensive minded and with good quality passing we have the pace up front to worry defenders. From the keeper right through the team I thought we were great".

This result, coupled with Aztec's draw with Waveney should be enough to put Mutford on top of Division 2 after a third of the season and makes them top scorers with 31 goals from 6 games.

Man of the Match and hat-trick hero: Josh.
