17th September 2005 - Away 10am KO vs. Bungay A

Result - Lost 3-1

A game of 2 halves, to state the old cliché, with Mutford dominating the early stages, but under performing in the second half.

With Jordan ill and Clabby calling off due to family commitments, Johnny returned from injury to play a central role just behind the front two of Mikey and AJ. In goal was Harrison with a defence consisting of Joe, Phil & Jervey and a midfield of Josh, Smiffy, Jason and Jack.

As with last weeks match against Gorleston, Mutford started extremely well with AJ, Mikey and Joe all coming close. The breakthrough came when Mutford were awarded a free-kick on the left, half way inside the Bungay half. Jason stepped up to take the kick and with everyone expecting either a shot or cross, Jason passed square to Johnny whose shot from outside the box could only be parried by the keeper into the path of Mikey who pounced to fire the ball home.

Mutford should have gone further ahead, but Mikey and Smiffy were both denied by the Bungay keeper. Josh was having another good game down the left, using his pace to great effect (his Mum is thinking of having his name changed by de-pol to Speedy Gonzalez).  Johny was also playing very well on his return from injury, and was unlucky after a mazy run down the left and attempted to chip the keeper from an acute angle when a cross may have been the better option.

Bungay did look dangerous coming forward and threatened the Mutford goal on a number of occasions. They had a couple of shots wide and were denied by good saves from Harrison. The equalising goal came when a good shot was only pushed wide by Harrison and the Bungay striker managed to find the net from an acute angle and evade attempts to clear off the line by Phil.

Half Time 1-1.

The second half started how the first had finished, Bungay were now pushing Mutford and it wasn't long before they had taken the lead. A though ball caught the Mutford defence flat footed and the Bungay striker slotted the ball past Harrison.

Mutford had a couple of chance to equalize, Josh went through on goal but shot straight at the keeper and Smiffy couldn't keep a rebounded ball down from another Josh effort and fired over the bar.

The game was put out of Mutford's' reach when the Mutford defence moved up looking for an offside that was not given, a bit of a scrabble followed and when the ball fell to a Bungay player he blasted the ball past Harrison.

Full time 3-1.

Although Mutford had gone off the boil just before half time the Mutford Assistant Manager Mark remained positive at half time, he said after the game, "I was always sure that we could win the game and thought that we would take our chances in the second half, but unfortunately the boys 2nd half performance was not as good as the first and they were all disappointed with the team performance. There are a few things to work on in training, but we have boys of exceptional talent in the team and we will put things right, in the Cup next week."

Mark went on to say, "Despite the result and second half performance there were some good thing to take out of the game. Johnny did very well playing just behind the front 2, Josh was extremely quick again coming down the left and we should have scored 5 or 6 goals in the first half. Mikey and AJ struggled to stamp their authority on the game in the second half, but this was more down to poor service than anything else". Johnny was awarded man of the match for his good performance.

Man of the Match. Johnny.
