6th November 2005 - Away 2.00pm KO vs. SC Rangers

Lost 3-2

A close match saw Mutford defeated by a good passing Rangers side in an entertaining encounter.

Mutford lined up with Harrison in Goal. Smiffy, Phil, Jack and Jervy in defence. In midfield were Josh, James, Jason, and Jonny with a front two of Jordan and Mikey.

It was a fairly evenly balanced match with Rangers possibly shading the contest when they went 1 up. A Mutford defender should have hit row Z with a clearance but instead over elaborated and the Rangers striker stole the ball and produced a shot that Harrison could only parry into the path of another striker who made no mistake with the finish.

Half Time 1-0.

Rangers also drew first blood in the second half, when a through-ball carved open the Mutford defence and was coolly finished under the advancing Harrison making the score 2-0 to the home side.

To Mutford's' credit they did not let their heads drop, and got themselves back in the game with a well worked goal. Smiffy who had now switched into midfield pressured the Rangers midfield into losing the ball which fell to Jonny, he in turn played in Mikey with a through ball and he made no mistake.

Rangers then went 3-1 up when a Rangers striker came through and beat Harrison from close range. It could have been worse for Mutford a few minutes later when Harrison pulled off a good save to keep Mutford in the game.

Phil made it 3-2 with a penetrating run up the left and fired the ball over the Rangers 'keeper to setup a nail biting last 10 minutes.

Then as Mutford pushed for the equalizer, Smiffy picked the ball up from Josh and hit a low cross into the path of Jordan, who did everything right, only to see his shot superbly saved by the Ranger 'keeper and Rangers held on for the victory.

After the game Manager Paul said "It was a great game and we were unlucky not to get something out of the game. Rangers play a good passing game of football and are a very sporting team. I was particularly pleased with Smiffy's contribution who worked so hard all game, Phil did well at the back and scored a great goal. Jervy and Jonny are striking up a good partnership up the right and James is settling in well. Man of the match goes to Jack who worked hard and made a superb last ditch tackle to deny Rangers a certain goal".

Man of the Match - Jack.
