13th November 2005 - Away 10.30am KO vs. Sole Bay Hunters

Result - Lost 7-1

An entertaining game played in good spirit with Sole Bay showing why they are leading the second division with an unstoppable first half display.

Mutford had Joe returning from injury for his first start in 7 weeks to put in a man of the match performance.

Sole Bay went ahead with a good chip over Harrison in the Mutford goal and then went further ahead when the ball narrowly crossed the line before Harrison could clear.

Mutford struggled to find their feet in the first half and Sole Bay defended well when Mutford did threaten.

The third goal came from a corner, Mutford unable to clear and a Sole Bay striker stole in to score with a header on the edge of the six yard box. Sole Bay struck again shortly after with a deflected effort that gave Harrison no chance.

Although Sole Bay were dictating the game Mutford did show signs of getting their passing game going and there was some good work from the midfield.

The fifth goal was a great solo effort with a Sole Bay striker dribbling round 2 defenders before slotting past Harrison into the near post. Then just before half time they made it six when Mutford failed to clear a free kick.

Half Time 6-0.

In the second half Mutford were keen to show Sole Bay what they were capable of and Smiffy came close early on with a shot going just over after good work from Jonny.

Soon after Mutford did get a deserved goal, good build up play as Jack found Mikey who in turn passed to James who shot from the right, the 'keeper made a good save but the ball came straight back to James and this time he fired passed the 'keeper for his first goal for the club.

Sole Bay came close on further of occasions, but a combination of good goal keeping from Harrison, a great block from Jack and a superb goal line header from Joe kept them at bay.

Mutford again came close with an attack up the left which saw Smiffy beat 2 Sole bay defenders and fire at the 'keeper who made a comfortable save.

Sole Bay had the last say with a well struck goal from the left into the bottom right hand corner of the net to give a full time score of 7-1.

After the game manager Paul was very happy with the second half performance and declared "Sole Bay were electric in the first half, but we really showed what Mutford is all about in the second. Although we were 6-0 down at half time, there was no moaning or criticism between the lads, just encouragement. Credit goes to the whole team".  In choosing man of the match praise went to Mikey, Jack, Harrison and James especially and man of the match went to Joe, returning from a 7 week lay-off due to injury, he had an excellent game and looked like he'd never been away.

Man of the Match - Joe.
