22nd January 2006 - Away 2pm KO vs. St. Benets Wasps A

Result - Won 2-1

Mutford came from behind to beat St Benets Wasps A 2-1 in a closely contested game.

Mutford lined up with Harrison in goal, Joe, Phil and Jack in defence. Josh, Smiffy, Jason and Harley in midfield with Josh2, Jordan and Mikey up front.

Both teams started well and it was the home side that came closest to scoring when Harrison pushed the ball onto the crossbar following a Wasps attack.

At the other end, good work from Josh2 set up a long range effort from Jason that Kelly in the Wasps goal was happy to see go wide.

Mutford's closest effort came following a corner from the right, taken by Jason who found Phil as he ghosted in but couldn't get enough power on the header.

The tackle of the match came towards the end of the half. Wasps pushed forward and a through ball took a wicked bobble past Harrsion and just as the Wasps striker was about to pull the trigger Jack sprinted back put the ball out for a corner with a great sliding tackle.

Half Time 0-0.

The match was in the balance when Wasps went in front with a quick break down the left and a pinpoint low cross which was slotted home at the far post.

Mutford were pressing for an equalizer and when Harley slotted a pass through to Josh2 he did everything right, but was foiled by a superb Kelly save.

The match seemed to be slipping away from Mutford and it looked as though it was going to be one of those days, especially after good work from Jason and a pinpoint though ball from Smiffy put Jordan 1 on 1 with Kelly only to see his rasping drive come of the top of the crossbar.

With 5 minutes to go Mutford got the breakthrough, more good work from the midfield put Josh2 clear, and for the 2nd week running he finished cooly and gave Mutford a deserved equalizer.

As the game drew into the last couple of minute there was more drama to come. Firstly Wasps attached up the left with another quick break and a looping shot brushed the top of the crossbar. Then a foul on the tireless Phil just inside the Wasps half on the left hand side, gave jack the opportunity to flight a freekick into the danger area and he did just that. The freekick fell to Jordan who shot at goal, Kelly could only parry the shot and Jordan slotted home the rebound to earn Mutford all 3 points.

Afterwards manager Paul said "Wasps are a very good side, and that shows how hard we worked. More great performances from all over the park". John chose Jack as Man of the match, he improves with every game and again made some great tackles.

Man of the Match - Jack.
