29th April, Home 11.00am KO vs. Byron FC.

Result 1-1

For the 3rd year running Mutford welcomed Byron FC to Dell Road for a pre-season friendly. Byron play in the Essex league and spent the weekend in North Suffolk playing friendly matches.

Mutford Lined-up with Harrison in Goal, the 4 'J's in defence (Josh2, Jason, James and Joe). Josh, Smiffy, Phil and Harley made up the mid-field with Mikey and Sam (making his debut) up front.

This evenly contested match was played in great spirit and could have gone either way. Jason came close early on when his rasping freekick was well tipped over by the Byron 'keeper.

Mutford went ahead through Mikey with a clinical strike after a great through-ball by the impressive Jason who was playing centre-half in a tactical switch to allow Phil to play mid-field alongside the energetic Smiffy.  Also playing well in central defence was James, covering for the injured Jack.

Byron hit back with a lovely corner met with a fierce header that gave Harrison no chance to make the score 1-1.

Joe was back to his best at left back with a man-of-the-match performance, making a series of excellent tackles.

In the end 1-1 was a fair result to a great game of football. Afterwards Manager Paul was very please with the performance "Byron are a great side and we played some lovely football, my players should take great credit from the performance".

After the match Paul and Mark were honoured to play in a short "Byron Parents" against "The Byron Boys" match (along with Smiffy, Jason and Harrison), of course the Parents won, but there was a bit of cheating going on.

Man-of-the match Joe.
