15th January 2006 - Home 12pm KO vs. Hempnall

Result - Lost 7-3

A disappointing first half from Mutford left them with a mountain to climb, but a spirited second half took the sting out of a 7-3 loss to a powerful Hempnall side.

Mutford lined-up with Harrison in goal, James, Jack, Phil and Joe in defence. The midfield consisted of Josh2 (making his home debut), Harley, Smiffy and Josh, with Jordan and Mikey up front. Jason started on the bench later to take up his position in midfield.

Mutford started brightly and should have gone in front when Smiffy played a ball to Josh, he sprinted down the wing and put a low cross into Jordan, who shot wide with the goal gaping.

Hempnall went ahead when Harrison came out to clear a through ball, the ball hit a bobble and rolled through for a Hempnall tap-in. Hempnall went further ahead minutes later and the Mutford heads dropped.

2 more strikes from Hempnall before half time must surely have put the tie out of reach

Half Time 4-0.

The second half was much better from Mutford and Jordan scored a deserved goal at the second attempt, after his initial shot came back off the post.

Hempnall then went straight up the other end a scored an up-and-under reminiscent of J.P.R. Williams, that gave Harrison no chance.

Mutford then hit back with two quick goals. The first again from Jordan and the second from Josh2 on his home debut after some good build up play from Harley down the right who crossed for Josh to smash home. This made the score 5-3 and Mutford suddenly saw a glimmer of hope.

But again Hempnall pushed on and hit another goal from a well delivered corner. The game finished shortly after Hempnall completed the scoring with a penalty to Harrisons left.

Afterwards Coach John said "Despite the loss, we are all good players and have the makings of a good team, if we can start to pass the way we know how we will have nothing to worry about".

Man of the match went to Harley, who put in a good performance along with Mikey, James and Jordan and goal scorer Josh2 on his home debut.

Man of the Match - Harley.
