20th October 2006 - Away 10.30qm KO vs. Gorleston Rangers A

Result - Gorleston Rangers A 0 Mutford 2

Mutford managed to hang on to all three points and clean sheet against a very hard working Gorleston side.

The game started with all the play down about 5 metres of the left hand side which made for lots of throw ins and stop-start football and little in terms of quality.

Mutford eventually broke the deadlock and inevitably it came from a break in the play and a free kick. Jason hit a long range shot which the keeper did well to stop but only for the lively Sam to pounce on the re bound and slot home from close range. This settled Mutford down and they then started to play some nice football and forced several fine saves from the Gorleston keeper, most notably from Robbie's right foot blaster from the edge of the box which was tipped over the bar.

Mutford's second goal had an element of luck about it. Again from a free kick Phil struck the ball from long range and as Danny came in for a glancing header, the keeper was distracted and the ball flew into the net without either getting a touch.

Half time Gorleston 0 Mutford 2

At half time Mutford felt that they had done the hard work and expected to be able to increase their lead with the slope and slight wind in their favour in the second half. But credit to the Gorleston players who had other ideas and pushed on in second half and for much of the time became the dominant side.

The half became more about Mutford having to defend than attack and their only real chance fell to the ever lively Danny who hit the post after some good build up play. Smiffy centre midfield was covering more ground than any other player on the field and playing some excellent football to ensure Mutford kept their advantage.

There was some relief for Mutford at the final whistle as it would have hard to argue that the Gorleston boys didn't deserve at least a consolation goal.
