8th October 2006 - Home 10.30am KO vs. Aztec - Cup Round 1 Result - Mutford 2 Aztec 5 (after extra time, 2-2 at Full time) Mutford welcomed Aztec to their new home at Mill Lane for the first time having played them twice before in the 2004/5 season and both times having been beat by the Caister outfit. Signs looked good for Mutford as they matched Aztec in the early stages and indeed should have gone in front with shots from Harley and a speculative effort from Smiffy with the 'keeper off his line. However, it was the visitors who took the lead with a smartly struck shot giving Harrison no chance between the sticks. Aztec then put themselves in a commanding position when the ball took a wicked bounce and squirmed under the Mutford 'keeper. Mutford Welcomed back new signing Robbie for his 2nd appearance of the season who was looking lively. Half Time 0-2 Mutford went back onto the field rueing missed chances, with instructions to keep passing. half way through the half Mutford hit a purple patch and bought the scores level with firstly a quick thinking poached goal by Mikey and then with probably the best goal of the game; Smiffy picking the ball up in midfield, passed to Harley, who found Phil with a defence splitting through and finished with aplomb. Mutford had further chances to extend their lead with a free kick from Jason and efforts from Phil, Mikey and Sam. Full Time 2-2 The match went into extra time as the spectators were enjoying a real cup-tie atmosphere, Sunday lunch would have to wait. Even a dog walker had stopped to admire the football. It was Aztec who again go their noses in front following some more good passing football by the visitors. 2 more late goals knocked the stuffing out of the Mutford player who had worked their socks off, and the game finished 2-5. After the match the Mutford Assistant Mark said "What a wonderful football match, Paul and I could ask any more from the boys, they haven't stopped running and deserved our applause. It's a shame there had to be a loosing team today, but Aztec are a very disciplined side and pass the ball very well. Good luck to them in the next round".
