23th September 2007 - Home 12.15am KO vs. Gunton - League

Result - Mutford 4 Gunton 0

Mutford went into this game feeling confident having beaten the opposition the week before by a 5 goal margin. However, Gunton had other ideas and produced a performance that was worthy of taking something from the game.

The early exchanges saw an increase in the energy and desire of Gunton's midfield and this prevented Mutford from getting any quality into their play and the home side were forced to defend and chances were few and far between. The first goal came against the run of play, Harley was releasd by a clever through ball and his pin point cross was met by Phil at the far post for a tap in.

Mutford doubled their lead on the half hour mark. Gibbo up for a corner found some space at the far post and his half volley was perfectly placed in the top corner.

Half Time Mutford 2 Gunton 0

The second half continued much the same as the first. Gunton's energy preventing Mutford from obtaining any control and forcing the home sides back four to work hard. Mutford introduced Jack for his first taste of league football for the season and his calm head and controlled distribution started to pay dividends.

Mutford finally found that extra bit of quality when a slick passing move involving Gibbo, Brad, Jack and finally Brad again providing a cool finish sliding the ball under the advancing keeper.

Further changes to the Mutford line up saw Danny playing up front and he provided the final goal of the game, sweeping the ball home from 12 yards from a cross from the right.

Gunton still pushed on and almost got a deserved goal but for Big L pulling off a superb one handed save.

After the game manager Paul Rose said, "It is always hard playing the same team two weeks in a row. I think the boys were expecting an easier time of it but Gunton worked super hard. Their midfield was very lively and we struggled to get any real quality in our game as a result. Once again our defence was solid and allowed the front players the opportunity to win the game for us. I am pleased with the start we have made. Our next game against Loddon is a vital one. Our results against the teams that are likely to finish around us are going to be the difference between finishing in the top half or nearer the bottom end."
